The Holy Knight Prays for Guidance at the Shrine of Holy Light

The worlds of Dungeons and Dragons are suffused with magic. The mages all bring the powerful spells that define those worlds while items suffused with raw, magical power are traded and sought after by adventurers of all kinds.

I've been writing and brewing in the worlds of Dungeons and Dragons for a very long time, and Magic Items are some of my favourite kinds of things to create after Monsters. There may be an even bigger avenue to expand into.

The shrine was an idea for a Magic Item that has always been on my mind as a lover of fantasy. The Magic Items of these worlds are concentrated ingots of magical energy, but what if there were places who held the same amount of magical energy as an enchanted sword or cursed book? The only difference is that places like this cannot move with a user or owner.

The Shrine of Holy Light was once the site of a glorious battle, fought and won by angelic or celestial beings. Those that take a rest under the statue of a long destroyed angel find themselves blessed by the powers of the celestials.

When a Cleric or Paladin takes a short or long rest at this location, they gain a number of benefits based on the tenets of their faith. Though the identity of the angel that died here is long since lost to time, the powers of divine radiance can be given out by the memory of the fallen angel.

Locations like this are not uncommon, but they are heavily sought after by holy enclaves. Temples and Churches are often built on or around these sites, to welcome weary travelers and for holy knights of all kinds to receive such blessings. Ancient religious sanctuaries where items like The Rebellious Guardian Sword or the Solar Aspis Shield can be found in places like this, hidden to time and history.
