I Love That Spell - Review for 'You Meet in a Tavern'

Dungeons and Dragons is a source of grand inspiration for creators everywhere. We here at Apotheosis Studios have created a great deal of content to level up your game, but content alongside Dungeons and Dragons is something we lovers of this game should really pay our attention to.

Previous posts on this blog have taken long, hearty reviews of All For One, the delightful YouTube comedy series by Deerstalker Productions. Season three was their biggest yet, and it made for truly great D&D comedy. With season four on the horizon, I've decided to fill the void by looking back on the past seasons and how the characters and production have levelled up since they started.

You Meet in a Tavern

The elements that will set up the show going forward are here from the offset. The characters as we go on to see them, are true here. It's a done thing in comedy for characters to stay consistent, playing into their stock roles, but this level of consistency is rewarding when you compare the first episode to the latest. At the same time, the scope of what can be done by this home grown Australian team is evident here. The grant by Screen Australia has really taken their content to new heights from these beginnings.

“You Meet in a Tavern” is one of the most common phrases in this genre of games. A Game Master's old familiar. It's somewhat of a cliché at this point, as it's a location that many can expect adventurers to be in, but the charm of All For One is that they take the tropes and running gags we can find in TTRPGs and turn them into comedy content.

As we can expect, or rather come to expect, from this cast of characters, things were not peaceful or safe in that tavern for very long. The tone that future episodes meet was set right here, and it embodies everything comedy D&D media should be.

Now we want to hear from you. Are you excited for season four? What other D&D skits or shows should we look out for? Let us know in our discord server or in the comments below.
