It's One Hit Point - A Review for 'Long Rest'

It's important for creators here in the realm of Dungeons and Dragons to take in just about any slice of inspiration wherever it pops up. We here at Apotheosis have made the D&D content you need to make your games legendary, but it takes the performances of fans to bring those moments to life.

All For 1 is a D&D comedy series that has been lighting up YouTube for the past year. The closure of the world due to the pandemic left them in jeopardy as to whether or not production could continue. The assistance of Screen Australia helped secure the show's future. It must be nice to have the government sponsor your content.

We've reviewed the spectacular season three opener, and episode two in previous posts, but with episode three (available right here) hot off the presses, it's time for a nap.

Long Rest

It's the common concern for those who play our favourite tabletop role playing game, that a few fights in succession really takes it out on our character's health and drains them of the slots to cast their spells. How do they get this all back to normal? The Long Rest.

Arguably the single most fantastical thing about Dungeons and Dragons is that all your injuries and ailments go away in an 8 hour sleep.

I really feel for Patrick the Dungeon Master in this episode. It's such a relatable problem to have to deal with players who want exactly all their hit points and spell slots going into a big battle. I've had my players sleep in a study room of a city library before – whilst the players and I played in the study room of a library.

It shows that the people who make this game, more than love D&D, they know it. As soon as the characters suggested their second long rest, I felt my finger going to my glasses, ready to “um actually”. The dungeon master character filled that in for me. It's important to remember that this is the “relatable content” kind of comedy. We've all had this feeling as players, taking that 8 hour sleep in a bug infested crypt or somewhere we'd never dare sleep in real life.

Sleep For All

The team at Deerstalker Pictures do a wonder boiling down the tropes and gags we all know and love from Dungeons and Dragons and putting them into a format we can get behind and laugh with.
