Nightfell - Kickstarter Spotlight

I think we all can agree that “preventing a world-shattering cataclysm” is the most commonly used arc in fantasy role-playing games. Be a hero! Save the world! We see it time and time again. And for good reason, it’s fun to be the world-saving hero. The stakes are obvious and formidable. But what if our plucky band of heroes didn’t save the world? What if they failed, and the villain’s evil schemes came to fruition? What happens after the world is quote-unquote destroyed?

Nightfell is the latest offering from Angelo Peluso and Mana Project Studio. It is a new Horror/Fantasy setting for 5E. And while they don’t explicitly say this setting is the aftermath of a cataclysmic event, it certainly feels that way.

Nightfell takes place in a land called Iurmen during what is known as the Lunar Age. In the team’s own words: The World you are going to face is cold and desolate. There are few inhabited settlements, and most races are now extinct. Nights are gloomy, but days show no sun nor Moon and are even more terrifying. Life in these lands persists only thanks to the faint breath of life left to the Primes, deities who are intrinsic to nature and still stand uncorrupted by the dark beings who have breached the Material Plane.

This whole things sounds utterly fascinating to me. I would love to explore this world Angelo and his team have built. Search the remnants of lost civilizations while fighting off scores of undead monstrosities. I think what I really like about the idea of playing through this dark, hopeless, and bleak world is that those few moments of triumph that you will inevitably stumble into are going to carry much more weight for both your character and you as a player. If everything you do is glorious, nothing is glorious. But if you spend most of your time barely surviving, those precious instances of hope and joy become invaluable. I, for one, am very excited for this treasure trove to come out.

Nightfell actually offers both a setting Corebook and a new Beastiary with almost 100 new, original creatures. Not only that, but you will be getting several new playable races, new archetypes, new backgrounds for your characters, and three new original classes! One of these new classes really caught my eye:

- Tefillin: Characters who wish to have a closer connection to the Dark World can choose to let themselves be possessed voluntarily by a ghost, becoming Tefillin. Learn how to use your ghost's powers to increase your abilities.

Who among us doesn’t want to try playing a character possessed by a ghost?! I know I do!

So stop wasting time and hurry over to the Nightfell Kickstarter campaign and secure your copy today! You can follow Nightfell on Facebook by clicking here, and on Instagram by clicking here. Enjoy!
