Round Table Discussion on Creating Modern Myths Starts September 1st!

Calling all Fantasy/Sci-Fi Fans, Writers, and Free Thinkers!  We are hosting a Round Table Discussion on Creating Modern Myths on September 1st!

In the Myth of Meaning, Carl Jung is reported to have said, “a neurosis must be understood, ultimately, as the suffering of a soul which has not discovered its meaning."

Likewise, in The Power of Myth, Joseph Campbell said, “Mythology is poetry, it is metaphorical. Mythology is the penultimate truth--penultimate because the ultimate cannot be put into words. It is beyond words. Beyond images, beyond that bounding rim of the Buddhist Wheel of Becoming. Mythology pitches the mind beyond that rim, to what can be known but not told.”

So we, fellow Modern Myth Makers, have a difficult task before us: to tell the penultimate truth which cannot be told; to show with images which can only be discovered on one's own; to describe and point to a place within our readers so Ultimate--it can only be personally known, but never told.

Although seemingly impossible, I could not dream a more more noble task. Please invite others to join us on this journey. Spread the word that our Round Table Talks on Creating the Modern Myths will begin on Sept 1st.

Although we point to a place which can only be personally known, there is no reason any of us should take up the noble task of myth making, alone.

How this came about: So, I was talking with a few writer friends of mine and we decided to create a round table discussion dedicated to the interactions between C.G. Jung (and other psychologists), Joseph Campbell (and other philosophers,) Hero's Journey (and other story models) and how it all impacts us, as writers, as we create our "Modern Myths" in the form of Epic Fantasy/Sci-Fi storytelling!

If it was not obvious, my friends and I are HUGE geeks... So, yeah...

Back on point: Starting Sept 1st I will begin a serial daily blog posting on the topic of "Creating the Modern Myth: A Hero’s Journey for the Technological Age" as the daily launchpad for our round table talks. We expect this first series to last approximately 30 days, however, we will also have guest postings on other interesting topics and host ongoing discussions so people can share ideas, ideologies, and passion!

We are looking for fans, writers, and free thinkers to chime in and share their perspectives and ideologies so we all can learn, grow, and have great discussions! To join us, please head over to our FB page "Creating Modern Myths" and hit us up with a like so you are alerted when we start things rolling! For those of you who would like to host a Round Table Talk, please comment below, on Facebook, or send me an email. See you there!
